So we had our first burn of the season - actually our first burn ever. After piling all of the branches Mark clipped from pruning our trees, and all the stumps from the trees he ripped out, we had ourselves a pretty good bonfire, at least in theory.
Nope, he started the fire in the morning, like 7:00 am and it smoldered most of the morning. No marshmallow roasting, s'more tasting from this fire. Just a burned up pile of ashes.
But now, we really are farmers. After we get the revised sprinkler system in the pastures and the garden, I'll have my garden plan waiting. Corn seeds are already purchased...
Let's just hope the below freezing temperatures we're supposed to have don't kill my newly planted nectarine, peach and honeycrisp apple trees. Jules and I covered them with flannel sheets. Keep your fingers crossed.
Another farmer-like purchase? A dozen baby chickens! After talking about it forever, the kids finally convinced me last week to get them. We got 4 black sexlings, 4 red island reds, and 4 orpingtons (the cute yellow ones). In only a week they've gone from living in a rubbermaid container in my mud room bathroom, to moving to a large plastic tub in the garage. They are quickly growing feathers and getting frisky - jumping on their food and water containers. Better get their home refurbished outside!

Nice, Marisa. I'm so envious of those chicks!
